Machine Operator - Finishing

Responsibilities​

Machine Setup & Operation:

• Set up finishing equipment (e.g., rotary die-cutters, slitting machines, and rewinders) according to the technical specifications on the job docket.

• Load printed master rolls and manage web tension to ensure stable tracking and prevent material distortion.

• Perform precise die-cutting, matrix stripping, and slitting to achieve the exact label dimensions required.

Cross-Border Procurement & Compliance:

• Manage and coordinate procurement needs for the Skanem companies in East Africa, ensuring processes align with local regulations, tax structures, and import/export requirements.

• Establish regional sourcing strategies to leverage volume across both geographical locations where feasible.

• Work with East Africa operations to identify local suppliers and mitigate cross-border supply chain risks.

Quality Assurance & Inspection:

• Conduct continuous visual inspections to identify print defects, registration shifts, or physical damage.

• Verify the final label count and roll direction (winding) as per the customer's application requirements.

• Ensure all finishing additives (varnishes, cold foils, or laminates) are applied consistently without bubbles or peeling.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

• Perform daily "First-Line" maintenance, including cleaning rollers, sharpening blades, and lubricating moving parts.

• Identify and report mechanical inconsistencies to the engineering team before they result in significant downtime.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Accurately record material usage, waste percentages, and production times in the ERP system or manual logs.

• Maintain a "Clean Room" environment, adhering to 5S principles and safety protocols.
